I don't understand why Corrine doesn't just post her own recipe for beef stew. The point is to review the given recipe, not list a million changes to it. This stew is perfect Equally WRITTEN. If you make whatever changes, you are not making this recipe for beef stew!!!!

An excellent and easy stew recipe. I make minimal changes (I like parsnips, and then I add together three chopped in place of celery, and I add together a footling more broth because I like more gravy), but that'south about it. This is i of those easy, homey, stick-to-your-ribs recipes. Some of the reviews tick me off: Yes, it'southward a "regular" stew recipe because it is, after all, STEW. And all the changes that other reviewers brand? Don't say "I fabricated this recipe, but I inverse EVERYTHING about information technology." Yous aren't doing this recipe justice.. heck, y'all aren't doing THIS recipe at all. I'g as guilty of changing recipes to conform my tastes and pantry every bit much equally anyone, but at to the lowest degree tell united states that you've made the original recipe as written earlier doing your one thousand thousand-and-one changes! Thanks for sharing this tasty-every bit-written recipe, Buchko!

I made similar adjustments to previous raters. I dredged the beef in flour/salt/pepper and pan friend until browned in olive oil earlier calculation to the slow cooker. Then I added some butter and onion to the pan and cooked until softened. Adjacent I deglazed the pan with some of the broth being sure to scrape upwardly the yummy $.25. In total I used 2 ten oz cans of beef broth. I added 10 oz. sliced button mushrooms. Used well-nigh 2T worchestershire sauce, added a agglomeration of extra herbs and finally thickened with cornstarch. It was perfect.

I followed Corinnes suggestions and this came out fantastic! The flavor and cosistency were wonderful, and merely every bit good the side by side twenty-four hour period. So yous dont have to search for it, hither is her proffer: ane. Increment flour to 1/iii cup and substitute seasoned salt for regular salt. Put flour mixture into gallon-sized, zippered bag. Milk shake beef in bag to coat. Sauté coated beefiness in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beefiness to sauté and soften. Transfer to dull cooker. 2. Mix beef broth with one TABLEspoon Worcestershire and ½ cup red wine. Pour into hot skillet to deglaze, then pour over beefiness and onions in cooker. 3. Add remaining ingredients with these additions: increase garlic to 2 cloves minced, 2 bay leaves; add together 1 packet McCormick's Beef Stew Seasoning.

The comments near tweaking the recipe, such as browning the meat first and deglazing (not even sure what that is) are squeamish, but the basic recipe worked out very well for someone who doesn't have time to melt. I similar that the recipe is simple for those of us who only have 20 minutes in the morning to throw things in the cooker earlier running off to work and want to come home to a nice, hot homemade meal. The stew turned out very well and was tasty. I'm not a chef and don't claim to exist, which is why I turn to this site for finding recipes like this that are quick to prepare and taste good with a minimal corporeality of piece of work. This stew does the trick- I have it with some fresh crusty staff of life that I pick upwards on the way dwelling house and it makes a satisfying repast for my married man and I after a long solar day's work.

I have this verbal recipe in the recipe booklet that came with my boring cooker! I make it all of the time and my family loves it. I use a package of dry out onion soup mix in place of all the spices, only because information technology'south an easy and convenient style to toss it together.
12/18/2009
I made this yesterday...and it was DELISH! this was my frist fourth dimension using the slow cooker. People who are commenting completely changing the recipe...STOP. only POST the recipe you are commenting about...since obviously your not making "this" recipe. i loved this then did my husband.!
11/07/2002
Fantabulous! VERY thick stew, and so if y'all similar a little bit of juice, increase the h2o. I used inside round sirloin marinating beef (didn't have stewing beef on manus, and this is bacteria than stewing beef). I added an actress i/2 cup of water, an extra celery stem, frozen peas (during the final hour of cooking) and more potatoes to ensure that it was filling enough for four hungry adults. It was polished off! Double this recipe if yous have more than iv adults, or if you lot want some leftovers. I served information technology with Maritime brownish breadstuff and cheese - yummy! Thanks for the great recipe!

This was a bully outset for my tweeking, which I always seem to practice! With no changes it withal would have been at least 4 stars, it simply needed some extra flavors. First added a little more veggies substituting red potatoes. I dredged the meat in flour, common salt & pepper, so pan fried in a little olive oil for simply v minutes only until brownish on all sides. Removed the meat to the crock pot and deglazed the pan with beef goop and some reddish vino. Added in some Mc Cormicks stew seasoning, rosemary, thyme and parsely. Increased the Worchestire sauce to 1 T. So about an hour before washed (well-nigh 11 hours) added a C. of fresh mushrooms. This turned out great! Perfectly thick for pouring over some mashed potatoes. Thank you for the neat recipe!

This is a great beef stew recipe (every bit written). It's easy, doesn't make a lot of dishes, makes the house odour amazing, and my family loves information technology! I contemplated adding a thing or ii the second time I fabricated it, but I decided it was unnecessary. The flavors are great but using the base recipe. And really, why make more than work for yourself by adding steps that aren't needed. Try this recipe as-is the first time you make it! You'll save yourself some work and I don't think you'll exist disappointed. I do take to say that information technology seems strange to me that people would give a recipe a 5 star rating, just they inverse it so much that it'southward non the same recipe whatever more. It helps to rate the recipe as it's written. Not to mention that you lot should at least effort it the fashion it's written before making all kinds of changes. As someone who'southward pretty new to the site, it makes information technology harder to notice proficient recipes. But my ii cents.
10/04/2000
This simply tasted like regular old beef stew to me. Cipher unusual or swell almost it. My fiance said there was too much meat and not enough vegetables. I'll keep searching for another recipes. I think this would've benefited from a i/2 c. red vino.
12/08/2010
YUM!!! I made but a few minor changes to the original recipe and information technology turned out incredibly succulent!... Commencement off, there's no demand to brownish the meat start like some reviewers suggested. I simply dumped the raw meat into the crockpot and added the flour and pepper and I also added a packet of McCormick Beef Stew Seasoning Mix (I didn't add the common salt)... Then I poured in ane 14.five oz can of beef broth, mixed it upward actually well, and added all the other ingredients exactly as listed (minus the 1 1/2 cups beefiness broth, of form)... In addition, I as well added a tablespoon or so of chopped fresh parsley and a little more of the carrots, potatoes and celery than what the recipe called for, as it didn't look like at that place were plenty veggies in relation to the meat. I used baby carrots and small dear gold potatoes, cut in half... I cooked the stew on loftier for 6 hours, stirring it every 60 minutes or so, and it came out PERFECT! It was very flavorful and just the right consistency. Definitely my favorite beefiness stew recipe EVER, and it was sooooo piece of cake to make!

I'k ane of those guys who is a freakin disaster in the kitchen, but I tin cut veggies without whacking off a finger and I have a slow cooker. I've been making this stew for a twelvemonth at present and information technology'south my become-to meal to throw together on a Saturday morning so I can relish information technology all calendar week long.
10/12/2010
the review that called for adding mcormack'south beef stew seasoning packet is making this less healthy because of the sodium content. Adding other spices, herbs and seasalt would be a much better choice.
12/06/2010
I followed recipe to the T. We all really loved this recipe and I thought maybe I would stop upwardly tweaking this, but didn't take to. Information technology was perfect every bit is. Easy too. thanks for sharing.
12/25/2014
This beef stew was EXCELLENT when prepared EXACTLY every bit written. I'yard certain those people who leave lengthy reviews describing how they tweaked the recipe take the all-time of intentions, instead of wasting review space, perhaps they should submit their own recipe separately. Unless there is an inherent flaw in the recipe, I call back it's rude to rework the recipe - Specially if that same person gives it 4 or v stars! Submit your own recipes and leave these poor people alone!
11/xv/2010
Followed the recipe exactly and it was perfect. My husband loved this and so much he went back for 2nds so 3rds! His coment when he beginning tried it was "Truly comfort food".
01/03/2011
Stew to die for!!! I used so many of other reviewers' suggestion-too many to mention, which turned out the most scrumptious stew I've ever fabricated. Key improvements that fabricated information technology great: Chocolate-brown the floured beef commencement, use 3 c. beef broth or water/ h2o/bouillon combo, add Lawry's Beefiness Stew bundle, add i loving cup frozen peas about 10-xv min. before finishing cooking. Prior to finding this recipe, I used merely Lawry's Beef Stew bundle, following the printed recipe. This recipe (with the tweaks) is soooooo much better.
05/08/2008
Very skillful. I have been making this same bones recipe for around 15 years. The merely affair that is different well-nigh my recipe is that information technology asks for more than salt (1½ tsp), and only ¼ tsp of pepper. I as well advisedly stir in cooked peas at the very end before serving. And I am telling you, if y'all can refrain from eating it the first day, it is much meliorate the second twenty-four hour period!!! And if you like the consistency to exist thicker, you can thicken it with a basic roux. Subsequently cooking the stew, remove all food and go out the broth in the boring cooker and plow the cooker to high. In a dissever pan, melt and cook 3 Tablespoons butter and 3 Tablespoons flour for effectually 5 min. Add this roux to the broth in the slow cooker and whisk information technology until yous like the consistency. Add the food back into the boring cooker and relish.
02/08/2011
This was a good and flavorful stew; however, I like mine with more goop. So, next time I will add enough beef broth to encompass the nutrient.
02/fifteen/2010
Very average tasting. I could have bought a large tin can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew, liked information technology more, and saved a few bucks. I followed the recipe likewise as I could. I had to double the beefiness goop because it had nearly dried up afterward about 3 hours on high. Really information technology was completely done after 3 hours on high for me - perhaps my slow cooker has some turbo switch I didn't know about. The meat does not need browned prior to placing in the slow cooker as some people take reported doing - it comes out as tender as possible. The problem I had was with the flavor just being bland equally some others have reported. I will probably try again but will most probable add the beef stew seasoning pack others have recommended, and will practice mayhap two hours on high and ii hours on depression. I would mind to those who put in the extra seasoning pack (McCormick'southward, I believe). Adept luck!

My husband is a picky eater and I did non have all the ingredients on paw, so here are the changes I made: 1 tsp of garlic powder (replacing minced garlic), no bay leaf, 1 tsp onion pulverisation (replacing chopped onion) two cans beef broth (added a can of water likewise, this helped make more base of operations to the sauce), added nearly 1 cup baby carrots (replacing diced carrots), omitted celery, and added about 1 tsp or so of pepper. These are just my personal changes, but the stew would exist just every bit as good as the orginal recipe. I made this at nigh 8 o'clock the night before...Our slow cooker has 3 settings - 'Go along Warm', 'Depression' and 'High'. 'Low' is usually too high, so I turned it on 'Keep Warm' until about 7AM. I institute that the stew was not thickening up well and the beef was withal pink, so I added well-nigh 1/3 cup Veloutine and turned it upwards to 'Low' and just prayed it wouldn't burn! We turned information technology down to 'Keep Warm' again at 3PM and by dinner time it was absolutely perfect! Ii men and myself ate almost the whole pot (we all went back for seconds)!!! Definately a keeper, 5 stars!!! Great with biscuits!

So elementary and then proficient. I only had about xx minutes before I needed to run out the door when I opened the fridge and saw the stew meat. A few clicks later on I plant this recipe and was so glad to come across that I didn't need to take the fourth dimension to brown the meat. Dumped the flour, table salt, pepper and garlic in a big ziplock baggie, tossed in the meat, poured information technology into the cooker. chopped upward the veggies added the remaining ingredients and off I went. With time to hunt for my shoes and car keys. Thanks for such an easy and very tasty recipe. How wonderful to have a quick clean-upwards, too. I did add a fleck of extra beefiness broth as I similar my stew a little thinner, but that is just a personal preference.
10/21/2011
This is the exact recipe I accept been using for xx some years, with only one other ingredient...a TBS of Gravy Primary or Kitchen Bouquet but to darken the gravy and make it pretty!! I take never had complaints..only always have gotten raves!!! Relish!

Sometimes adding wine too early in a recipe can leave a sour taste with the finished production. Many times I will add together wine ane/2 to 45 minutes prior to the end of cooking. I avert grocery store wines altogether (as they incorporate a ton of sodium and taste awful) and I never use a wine for cooking that I wouldn't drink. :) De-glazing pans with wine is a good idea for recipes that cook on the stove top for shorter amounts of time. Other ideas for this recipe: E'er tenderize stew meat (pound cubes) and then milkshake them in seasoned flour before browning them. Tenderizing really does brand a divergence in tenderness. I never used to brown my meat so equally to "save time". I realized, after browning my meat commencement, that I will NEVER skip this pace again as the sense of taste differential is very noticeable. The only other recommendation that I would make is more garlic and a couple of bay leaves (remove prior to serving). The house smells wonderful when I brand this recipe. Such a smashing condolement food for a cold wintertime's solar day!
01/03/2015
Splendid, easy recipe. Only the reviews were my favorite role. A little personal change is great but changing the entire recipe and the superior attitude reviews are then annoying to me. Glad people are speaking upwardly.

I take made this twice now. First time, I made it as is, with the exception of adding a little extra broth. The second time I had made information technology, I used ii cans of Campbell's condensed beef goop. One half 60 minutes before serving, I combined two tablespoons each of burgundy vino and Worcestershire sauce with one tablespoon of flour, so poured it into the stew. Stew thickened upwards quite nicely and was very flavorful. Will be making it once again and again equally autumn and winter arroyo.

This beef stew recipe is delicious & easy. I doubled up on the recipe because I take a big family unit and everyone LOVED it. I ended up putting the flour mixture in a ziploc bag and added the meat to that and shook really well until everything was evenly coated and so put it in the crockpot. I also added frozen sweet peas to the recipe and it was perfect. This is the first time I made beef stew that everyone in my house enjoyed. What a bully recipe!! If you are looking for a keen beef stew recipe, you should option this ane...

I tried this recipe due to the 4 1/2 out of 5 stars based on 499 reviews so I figured information technology must be good. I didn't have time to read the reviews when I printed it, only I should have. This recipe was simply bland & blah. We added extra beefiness broth, 2 packets lipton onion soup mix, two cups water, some extra common salt, extra vegetables, a rue to help thicken it a fiddling, put it over white rice due west/ butter & it was even so just blah. Afterwards reading the reviews, it seems that well-nigh everyone had to tweak this recipe and so I can't figure out why it had such a high star rating on the yummy factor. If reviewing this recipe on it's own merits without all the actress's needed, don't waste your time & money on the ingredients unless your're looking for a recipe to medico upward on your own. I recommend finding a unlike one.

So astonishing! I definetly would non waste product fourth dimension searing the beef. I used to be fully beleive in searing the exterior first, but after making it without, i realized the falvour is but as skilful and the beef is alot more tender, plus it takes way less time and less dishes! I added a pack of Guild House stew seasoning and a little more salt when it was done. Wonderful.

EXCELLENT & Delicious. I had merely 1 lb stew meat which I cut into 1" cubes. Followed all other instructions. My tiresome cooker is 'large' so I adjusted recipe for 2 plus extras for leftover: I used 2 cups left over corn beef broth, plus 1 can low sodium beef goop; 3 med cherry-red potatoes, cubed; ane/2 lb peeled baby carrots; one 4oz can button mushrooms; 1 cup frozen peas. Cooked on high for 3 hrs, and then depression for 2 hr: full 5 hrs. 10 to 12 hrs is Fashion TOO long for this recipe. I added the mushrooms & peas the last one/2 hr of cooking; then thicken liquid with 1 Tbl flour & goop. Switched cooker to 'warm' till fix for dinner. New cookers power are higher than the old ones then food cooks a lot faster and more evenly. Meat was tender, and veggies were perfect. Reviewers that state their meat was non tender, or that veggies were overcooked should cheque with the mfg of their cooker. I was informed by my mfgr that the UL CODE was changed to melt at college temperatures to insure that foods were cooked thoroughly to prevent bacteria or food poisoning. That was good to know because you take to learn Non to overcook, and come home to a burned meal. I suggest that you check with your mfgr for the correct cooking times. All cookers are not alike.
10/ten/2005
Very proficient. I was a chip surprised because there didn't seem to exist enough liquid. I thought for sure I was going to have to add more broth but I decided to wait and see what happened. Sure enough, the juices from the meat provided just plenty liquid. Great recipe!
03/twenty/2000
This recipe was great. Information technology was piece of cake and fast to prepare. My son asked if I could make this every night then I call it a winner.

Don't look at any other beef stew recipies. This is Crawly ! This is the beef stew recipe that I will continue to employ forever. I used a bottom roast that I cut up into 1.5" cubes myself. Full cooking time was 5 hours on high. I did follow the changes that a reviewer named Corinne made and I highly recommend that you do likewise. They are as follows... one. Increase flour to 1/3 cup and substitute seasoned common salt for regular salt. Put flour mixture into gallon-sized, zippered bag. Shake beef in bag to coat. Sauté coated beef in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beef to sauté and soften. Transfer to wearisome cooker. 2. Mix beef broth (I used Swanson's Certified Organic in aseptic carton) with 1 TABLEspoon Worcestershire and ½ cup red wine. Pour into hot skillet to deglaze, then cascade over beef and onions in cooker. 3. Add remaining ingredients with these additions: increase garlic to 2 cloves minced, 2 bay leaves; add i parcel McCormick's Beef Stew Seasoning. Thank you for the additions Corinne.

Made this recipe exactly equally it is written and it turned out awesome!
04/18/2011
I loved the simplicity of this recipe - I did follow the recipe, with no actress steps to brown the meat. It was delicious! everyone needs a few good throw-and-go recipes for the crock pot, and this is definitely ane of my new favorites.
01/03/2015
This recipe does not demand another glowing review, just it was good enough that information technology deserves one! While in reality, this is a good sometime, basic beef stew recipe, the dazzler is in the cooking method - the crock pot AND that it does non call for browning the meat before wearisome cooking. While I don't add or subtract ingredients from this recipe, I do modify the ones that are there a little bit. I up the Worcestershire to 1 tablespoon and I use 2 to iii cloves of garlic (just beloved that stuff!). I also dredge the meat in either flour (or corn starch sometimes) earlier placing in crock pot (I but think it is a bit easier this way, then just personal preference, no right or wrong style hither). And because I adore cooked celery, I often add three stalks or so. So you see, no real changing of the recipe, but the amounts of some things to suit my family's tastes. Make exactly every bit is and you lot won't be disappointed - tweak it a bit to suit you and your family and you take a stellar recipe in your repertoire!
01/12/2014
This is a great beef stew recipe! I didn't add together anything or change a thing to this recipe. Do yourself a favor - don't "doc this up" until you try it equally is. If y'all don't like it (which you volition) then play with it!
10/18/2010
I fabricated this two days in a row. My family thoroughly enjoyed this. The only thing I did the second time around was spray not-stick cooking spray in the crock before adding ingredients and mixed the stew meat and flour mixture in a seperate bowl and permit information technology sit a few minutes to have the flour mixture ahear to the meat and so that it didn't stick to the bottom of the crock while cooking. Other and then that I did followed to a T both times. I cooked at low temp all day but I did prepare it at four:xxx in the morning and we at it seven in the evening, and then the meat was actress soft. We liked it very much.
eleven/21/2010
I've made this several ways. The first time I made it as Corinne suggested. It was a lot of extra work and I don't like common salt. I don't recommend her style. The second fourth dimension I made information technology, I made information technology as is. It was very, VERY good. My problem though was the corporeality of salt. Once again, I don't like table salt. The next time I made it, the 3rd time, I eliminated the common salt altogether. Because I exercise this, I usually have to add together a couple of things to make upwardly for information technology and in this case I did non. Needless to say, it was a bit banal. The quaternary time I fabricated it, I had great success! Once again, I eliminated the salt. I added 2 tsp of sodium complimentary beefiness burgoo powder, 1 tsp of onion pulverization, about 1/four tsp ruby-red pepper flakes, a pinch of rosemary and 3 cloves of minced garlic. This i was a keeper. If yous like salt, and so the original recipe will is perfect. If not, so this last way may be something you'll relish. What is dandy about the original recipe and this last fashion is how piece of cake and low mess it is. At that place is no reason to brown the meat in advance and this way the meat came out incredibly tender. Thank you for sharing this recipe! Our family loves it.
01/19/2002
I used 2 cups(the whole tin) of beef broth and this turned out peachy. we loved it.
11/22/2011
This was delicious. I've made this numerous times "as is" and information technology's perfect. I've also fabricated it several times using Corinne's suggestions and it too is fantastic. Honestly, for me, it depends when I'grand making it. If I'm throwing it together earlier work I exercise the easy "every bit is" version. If I take extra time I do Corinne's. While the 2 practice gustation dissimilar, they are both delicious in their ain way. Definitely a keeper!
02/03/2009
WOW! I was shocked how good it was. I Will add more vegetables adjacent time. That'south the only thing I would exercise unlike..
02/17/2013
I took the great base recipe, and tweaked it with a compilation of reviewer recommendations. The end result is a winner, to be sure. Here is what I did (and I won't modify a thing the next time I make it): 1. Increment flour to i/3 cup and substitute seasoned salt for regular salt. Put flour mixture into a zippered bag. Shake beefiness in bag to coat. Sauté coated beef in i-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beef to sauté and soften. Transfer to slow cooker. 2. Mix beef broth with i TABLEspoon Worcestershire and ½ loving cup red vino. Pour into hot skillet to deglaze, then pour over beef and onions in cooker. 3. Add together remaining ingredients with these additions: increase garlic to 2 cloves minced, 2 bay leaves; add 1 packet McCormick's Beef Stew Seasoning. Your dwelling volition smell wonderful all day, and your meal will be a savory feast! I served the stew in bowls, accompanied by slices of fresh, crusty bread.

This recipe is PERFECT every bit is !!! I did use Beef Consomme & French Onion soup...
10/21/2011
My married man loves beefstew and I don't brand it, and so I used this recipe last nighttime and information technology was FANTASTIC. Afterward reading others' reviews I decided to brownish my meat in i/4c of olive oil and deglaze the pan with 1/4c of sherry, 1/4c water & remaining flour. I added this sauce to the crockpot with all the other ingredients. I also added 1 can of love apple sauce for coloring. It was and then good nosotros ate beefstew for breakfast this morn. Thanks for such a uncomplicated recipe.
01/05/2007
I accept to agree with susanna's review. I hope I don't offend anyone when I write this: I know we all "tweak" sometimes - like I added 3 tablespoons of tomato paste and extra veggies and broth, but to modify the recipe THAT much is to not brand this recipe. Beefiness stew is supposed to exist simple and dandy tasting - this recipe is both as information technology is written. As a busy mom of three kids, it is perfect. I will say I tried beef stew with red wine and my kids hardly touched it - it took away from the true sense of taste of the stew. If y'all want beefiness stew similar yous had as a kid, this is it. The simplicity and reminder of dwelling make this a five star recipe. Thanks so much for sharing!
01/01/2015
I love this recipe equally is. It's also SUPER easy to tweak. The only matter I would say (because of some of the other recommendations here) is Exercise NOT dark-brown the beef commencement, it just ends upward dry and tough. I tried quite a few dissimilar recipes that called for browning the beef start and the commencement time I made it with THIS recipe the beef only falls apart so soft and tender. Seriously simply attempt it this way at least once. It's astonishing. This beef stew also does really well with mushrooms added, my husband loves mushrooms. I besides add together quite a scrap more than worcestershire because I dearest it. But every fourth dimension I make beef stew I do this basic recipe and so add whatever I want and it always turns out great.
01/21/2013
Soooooo good. Definitely practise NOT need to go all crazy with browning meat, and Practice melt on Depression for the longer fourth dimension menstruation instead of trying to speed things up by putting it on High. I made information technology both ways, and while I still enjoyed it when I put it on high, information technology fabricated a difference in the meat texture and turned out perfectly when I cooked on depression, every bit suggested. I like mine to have more broth, so I made sure my ingredients were covered in beef broth (about five or 6 cups I think). I added a glug of red wine, 1/4 tsp common salt straight into the goop (in addition to the i/ii tsp mixed into the flour already), and I put in 1.5 - 2 tablespoons of soy sauce instead of the worcestershire sauce (I made this recipe gluten free with gluten free soy sauce and gluten free flour). Utilize red potatoes because they won't plough mushy on you lot. It's the uncomplicated flavors of this recipe, cooked to perfection, that make this a great recipe. It'southward similar your grandma's best, classic Beef Stew. Definitely going to exist a staple in my house.
xi/xx/2012
Excellent as is. I also add ane/2 pack of onion soup mix, a tsp of dried thyme, mushrooms, and frozen peas. Perfect with warm crusty breadstuff. The nigh recent time I made this, I quadrupled the recipe and froze iii portions in big freezer bags and made the quaternary in the slow cooker. For the frozen meals, I simply marked how long to cook on the bag before filling. When I wanted to brand the stew, I would thaw it in the fridge overnight then that the next mean solar day I could just pop it in the slow cooker.
01/30/2003
I knew this was a adept starting point. What I did differently was glaze the meat with the flour, common salt and pepper and and then fry it in dijon mustard flavored oil. I put the potatoes, carrots, celery and onion on the lesser of the crock to be certain they would melt completely and put the meat over information technology. I didn't have any beef broth and so I took the trimmings from the meat cubes and boiled them for a few minutes along with a parcel of onion soup mix. Remove the meat scraps since they're simply stringy, and pour the resulting goop over contents in the crock subsequently sprinkling with paprika and adding the worcestershire sauce, garlic and bay leaves (yeah, more than ane foliage). No need to stir. And so, nearly a one-half hour before it's done, add together a tin of stewed tomatoes, some mushrooms and almost a cup of frozen peas. Okay, now y'all can stir. If it'southward too juicy for yous, merely do the corn starch/water mix and add it. I made 2 batches, i in a 3.5 qt. crock pot and ane in a 5 qt. slow cooker. Both were done in about 4 hours on high doing it this fashion. Bon apetit.
01/30/2011
I of the easiest beef stew recipes on earth.. I practise not alter anything and it's delicious.. I've made it at least iv times since I discovered it.
01/29/2011
Despite owning two crock pots, I don't have a lot of feel with them. That may change, thanks to this recipe. The stew was succulent! The only things I measured were the flour and broth; simply guessed at everything else. Toward the end, I added cornstarch mixed with water just to thicken information technology up a scrap, but followed the recipe to well-nigh 98% otherwise. (Don't similar bay leaf, added more broth, added pepper to my serving.) Hubby had two bowls and our super-finicky youngest said, "Expert dinner, Mom." Whoa!

yummmy....great on a common cold day...i dredged the meat in flour, salt and pepper, and then browned information technology with onions, put that in pan and so added the wine and Worcestershire to pan and deglazed put that in crock with all the other ingredients plus a packet of beefiness onion soup, rosemary, extra garlic....cooked on high for 5 hours
01/22/2008
I followed this recipe exactly as written. I let it melt while I was out and returned to a meal that was mushy and bland. Volition not cook over again.
06/28/2000
My husband had been wanting a stew and I printed this and tried it. Information technology was wonderful and he loved it... thanks
ten/27/2011
I fabricated this beef stew exactly as written, even though it just felt "wrong" not to brownish the stew meat starting time. However, I wanted to give the recipe a fair risk. Bottom line is, information technology was great. My husband loved it, I loved it, and this will get in the regular lineup for meals this autumn and wintertime. It's a winner.
01/06/2012
And so easy! I followed the recipe exactly and permit information technology cook all solar day when I was at piece of work. I only made half. Next time I'll use a full loving cup of broth instead of 3/4 cup - all the liquid was sucked up past the time I got home.
03/06/2014
Lol Canucky! You read my mind! Im certain your beefiness stew is delish Corinne...just information technology isnt THIS recipe :) whos recipe were you rating? I give THIS recipe five stars! Super yummy.

A very savory stew with NO leftovers! My whole family gave it "two thumbs up". Personally, I would cook this stew NO LESS than 12 hours on the low setting. The meat was "fork tender". I did calibration the recipe to yield 8 servings, evenly browned the floured meat 1st in margarine, then transferred it over to the crock pot. I also included two cups of water and ii cups of beefiness stock for a heartier season and more gravy in the stew. Additionally, I used a TBLS more of Worcestershire Sauce, (1) TBLS of Lawry's Seasoned Common salt, 1 tsp. of saccharide and more black pepper to gustatory modality. Lastly, I blended iii TBLS each of real butter and flour and "whisked" it into the stew w/a fork the terminal two hours of cooking fourth dimension, to thicken the gravy. Absolutely succulent with either crusty bread or hot, buttered cornbread fresh out the oven. Next time, I'll add together frozen peas the last hr or and then. Overall, this one will definitely remain in my recipe file. I plan to make this stew again real before long!

I'm a rookie to a slow cooker and then I always research recipes before I brand something. I institute this recipe today and thought it seemed too easy to be good.... But figured I would try information technology and make it exactly as written except I added ane/four cup of reddish wine. What a surprise. It is the best beefiness stew I've always made! Cooked it for 4 hours on high and it was washed to perfection! No browning and no sautéing vegetables....easy breezy. Definitely give it a try!
01/03/2015
the point of this stew is the convenience and speed in which yous can get it ready. if I desire something quick, I do non dredge and brownish and tweak, I put it in the slowcooker and plow it on. voila, something quick and succulent without making it a cecil b demille.
x/21/2002
This stew was pretty banal on it's own. I added a packet of beef stew seasoning at the finish of cooking and it made a globe of difference!
xi/07/2011
Great! If you like VERY compact stew, this is the recipe for yous! I similar a little more of a balance between meat and veggies so I add 6 carrots, ii large russet potatoes, and 3 stalks of celery. I double the garlic and use an actress loving cup of beef broth. No need to chocolate-brown the meat or saute the onions 1st, it'due south a slow cooker recipe! The meat is going to be fall apart succulent anyway you exercise it. Also don't add red wine...it adds a sour flavor to it that's just off. I served information technology with a dollop of cream cheese on top (if you accept non tried this DO...you'll never eat beef stew again without it) and crusty breadstuff Thanx Buchko!
02/21/2010
This was excellent--I did put the flour mixture into a ziplock bag and coated the meat first; saute the beefiness apace with onion until brown and then threw information technology into the crock pot. I also added more than garlic and I used a package of McCormicks beef stew mix.
02/17/2012
This stew turned out keen. I made it last weekend and my husband is begging me to make it again this weekend. The simply thing I added was a little corn startch to thicken the broth.
11/14/2010
Adept, hearty stew, wonderful for a dank night! I fabricated a mountain of it then that I'd have enough to freeze for some other dinner, but truth be told, we nearly finished information technology all! Modest changes (FTW) - shook the cubed meat in a large nil-lock w/ flour, paprika, s&p) and so browned it. Deglazed pan due west/ sherry. Added to the crock pot, in addition to the potatoes, carrots, onion, and celery, ii c. frozen mixed veggies, along w/ some bong pepper. Sopped upwardly all the stew-ey goodness west/ hunks of cornbread and our bellies were very happy indeed.
11/thirty/2010
I made this exactly as the recipe says except that I just had i.5lbs of beef. Besides, I used reduced sodium beef broth and added frozen green peas in the last hour of cooking. Came out great! Married man loved it and I enjoyed it as well. But information technology felt like in that location was something missing...I can't put my finger on it :(
08/24/2011
OMG. This stew was so awesome and SO easy! Left it on for my bf to come home to and he ate almost half the pot by himself lol. Followed the recipe instructions and all ingredients...i just added a half loving cup of wine. i think the wine gave it skillful flavour, just adjacent fourth dimension i retrieve im going to just use similar a ane/3 cup instead.
04/29/2005
The original recipe isn't bad, just with some alterations it tin be superb! 1/2 C red vino gives it flavor, and increase the flour to i/3 C to compensate for the actress liquid. Use at to the lowest degree a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and two each bay leaves and garlic cloves. Nosotros halved the onion and added a jar of those small "Holland-way" onions, but the veggies are flexible. Brand certain to be assuming with the flavoring, though! Delicious with crusty bread.
04/xi/2013
I seasoned the meat with Southward&P and coated with flour, and then browned it on the stovetop before calculation it to the slow cooker. Topped information technology with onion & garlic, then added all the chopped veggies. I and then mixed together the broth, some ruby vino (about a 1/2 cup or so) and a packet of beefiness stew seasoning mix and poured it over the top. Added 1 bay leafage & let it get. It was ready in virtually 4 hours on the high setting. Pure comfort nutrient!
01/08/2015
But made this on a -10 degree day hither in Maine. It is and then easy and and then skilful. I added more carrot and potato considering my son doesn't like celery. i added a tablespoon on tomato paste and otherwise as written. no need to brown meat, it adds piece of work and isn't necessary. Cheers and so much for the recipe. I ever expect for 4 and a half stars ratings and this deserves it!
ten/17/2010
So easy and then good! I followed the recipe as written, with the exception of adding an extra stalk of celery. This is definitely a keeper!
12/04/2006
STOP RIGHT Hither! THIS IS A TERRIFIC BEEF STEW RECIPE WITH THE ADDITION OF ANOTHER REVIEWER'S (CORINNE) TWEAKS. IN ADDITION TO CORINNE'S TWEAKS, I ADDED THE Post-obit: ADDED MORE POTATOES/CARROTS AND More LIQUID (BROTH & Wine), Just A PERSONAL CHOICE. SERVE Information technology IN A BREAD BOWL (PANERRA'Due south Behave THEM). Yous'LL Swallow THE STEW AND THE Bowl!! RAVE REVIEWS FROM MY FAMILY AND MY COOKING CLUB. Relish!
12/12/2011
EXCELLENT!! I followed the recipe with Corinne's recommendations from x/10/06. She said to increase flour to 1/3 cup. I also added Morton's Nature'southward Seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Put flour mixture into gallon-sized, zippered purse. Milk shake beefiness in pocketbook to coat. Sauté coated beef in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beef to sauté and soften. Transfer to irksome cooker. I mixed one/two cup of the broth with some Swanson's concentrated broth jellies (2 of them) and the worcestershire sauce and deglazed the pan. I poured that into the tiresome cooker and added the remaining ane loving cup of beef goop. Add the remaining ingredients (I also added fresh green beans because I had them on hand). Increased the garlic to 2 cloves minced. I mixed everything in the crock pot and permit information technology continue high for 4 hours. The meat was amazingly tender and the veggies were flavorful. The browning of the meat makes all the difference. This is a keeper!
12/eleven/2010
4 stars because I had to well-nigh triple the amount of broth to get the amount of gravy I wanted. Added about two tbs of corn starch at the end to make a nice rich thick gravy. I likewise used seasoned salt instead or regular salt. Also, used 1 extra irish potato. Next time, I will add more celery than what information technology called for-I wish there was more. My DH said information technology was "really really good". Enough said. =)
03/28/2010
My married man said this is the All-time stew I have ever made. Even 4 stew skeptics (kids under the age of 9) devoured it. I too floured the beef, using top sirloin, not stewing beefiness, browned in a flake of oil and butter, then put them to the side and sauteed onions, calculation carrots, then celery, then garlic in that order (leaving a two infinitesimal gap between each improver), also deglazed with red vino, then threw everything into the crock pot. I put it in the fridge then pulled information technology out in the morning time and put it on earlier I left for work. I call back the top sirloin is way better than the stewing beef, came out extremely tender and non dry at all. Also, I diced the celery so it pretty much dissolved into the stew, without being mushy or anything but you still got the flavour of it.
04/30/2010
very skilful stew!. i cutting my medium sized potatoes in one-half but, and my carots in hugs chunks! they were super soft enough afterwards 10 hours!. likewise added a tomoto. and an hour before some cornstarch to brand it thicker. ate with french bread . great recipe...a keeper!
10/23/2012
I don't think I'll always dark-brown stew meat again. I have never omitted this footstep before but I decided to follow this recipe and was pleasantly surprised. I left out the onions and garlic as I was short on time and it was still delicious.
08/27/2014
This was great exactly equally is. I was nervous not to melt the beefiness start, merely it was fork tender and the stew had a squeamish brown color to it. I'd definitely make this once more. No adjustments made other than adding an extra potato.
09/xviii/2011
I hold with Corinne, This was a good base to start from as with all recipes they do not take to be followed to the letter. I concord with the browning as otherwise the meat looks kinda boiled and a little pale and adds alot of xtra flavour. I added my own variation of veg such as rutabegas, carrots, corn, potatoes and carrots equally well as the onion and xtra garlic. The packet of seasoning really helps. This was very uncomplicated and will def make over again mmmm :)
09/02/2011
Made this....didn't have beefiness goop, so I used onion soup mix instead. It turned out really corking!
03/06/2012
Mislead past other reviews. Stick with this recipe equally is. Exercise NOT add McCormick seasoning!!!! Y'all will ruin this recipe.
01/13/2011
This is a proficient basic recipe. I made it as is except I put about 1/4 c cherry-red vino in. I think side by side fourth dimension I volition dust the meat with the flour and table salt and pepper mixture and brown it and maybe add some thyme or rosemary. It's pretty adept as is though. I cooked on loftier for 6 hours and the meat was autumn apart tender.
ten/03/2016
Second time making this exact aforementioned recipe becuase the beginning time was so easy and absolutely loved by the whole family unit! I don't have the time to dark-brown anything or sift in zip locks! Worked all night and feet are killin..which is why iv chosen this exact recipe...only throw it all in and out comes a masterpiece of superbness! Astonishing and tin can't wait to eat information technology on this cold winters night, as soon as I wake up! Gnight ;)
02/24/2003
I took the advice of other reviewers: At the beginning, I added a package of gravy mix mixed with a cup of water, and tripled the amount of garlic. With about an 60 minutes to go, I added a can of italian stewed tomatoes, a tin of corn, a tin can of peas, and some sliced fresh mushrooms. I did effort to thicken it a bit with some cornstarch (for the commencement time ever -- but I think information technology worked!). This was delicious -- we ate it over rice, with grated mozzarella cheese on peak! I added the cheese because I thought the pepper was a little also stiff. Side by side time, I'll put in less pepper and paprika, merely everything else I'll exercise the same.
02/18/2011
Exceptional! I am a pot roast/beef stew FANATIC (every bit a kid, it's what I always picked for my "birthday meal"), and so I consider myself a tough critic. I've been making pot roast/beef stew myself for years now without a recipe, but decided to give this ane a whirl. BEST POT ROAST I Ever Fabricated! Thank you so much for sharing this i. No modifications. Yum, and my house smelled incredible. One tip; exercise Not shortchange yourself on the cooking time.
01/13/2012
I dearest this as a base recipe. I follow some of the other reviewers suggestions of adding things like dry onion soup mix. I also normally alter it upwards to put in whatever vegetables I desire at the time or accept on hand. I Dearest putting sweet potatoes in and hominy. Good stuff. Don't be put off past the picture-this stew looks disgusting in the pic if you lot ask me!
08/29/2000
Very yummy and spicy; my niggling one didn't like it but what does a 17 calendar month old like but hotdogs and macaroni?! Very tasty!
08/01/2011
This is an excellent 'base' recipe. i did similar some others, and browned the meat before assembling in the crockpot. I besides added some quartered mushrooms(baby belles), and more beef stock. I"ve never done stew in a crockpot before, it came out astonishing!!!!
03/26/2011
This is a very good slow cooker beefiness stew. I floured the beef and browned it in olive oil before adding it to the tedious cooker. I so deglazed the pan with the beef broth and added that in for extra season. In improver, I cooked the potatoes just earlier serving in a carve up pan and added them in at the cease to decrease the starchiness of the stew. There were no leftovers.
08/02/2011
The squeamish thing most this stew is that I could put it in the slow cooker and not call up almost it until dinner time. The stew itself tasted fine, but it had no special characteristics beyond that. It tasted like every other stew I have made. And so information technology gets four stars for being easy.
03/21/2014
This is the all-time stew recipe I've tried (and there were many tries)! My married man raved about it, all the kids gobbled it upwards in record fourth dimension. I do desire to say that there is no need to brown the beef before putting it in the irksome cooker. In fact, it adds nothing at all to the sense of taste or the tenderness. What it does add is more than fat and calories. I wouldn't have thought that the best stew recipe on this site would have been the easiest, merely the fact that you lot don't accept to dark-brown anything before putting it in the ho-hum cooker is the beauty of this piece of cake to make dish.
x/05/2008
Stew is 1 of those recipes that just keeps growing until yous observe out it is likewise much to safely fit your slow cooker. I baked everything for three ane/ii hours (covered) at 375. I added onion and corn to the recipe. Pretty tasty stew.
07/30/2000
This is an excellent stew! The flavour was nifty and b/c I cooked information technology on low for 10 hours the meat was soooo tender. The only problem is in that location'south never any left for left-overs! The simply thing I changed was that I pre-cooked the potatoes. Next time I'll double the recipe.
10/29/2012
Preparing for the Frankenstorm to hit East Declension, I made this slow cooker beef stew last nighttime. I didn't have beefiness broth and then I used chicken broth and I didn't accept enough Worcestershire sauce but the flavor is delish. I wanted a simple straight frontwards beef stew and this is it. I like to dark-brown my meat showtime to give that extra flavor. This is a definite keeper.Serve with white rice and you are ready.
02/26/2011
We liked this a lot. I but threw information technology all in the crock pot and it turned out cracking - I added 1/four cup wine and a 12 oz package of frozen mixed veggies, omitting the worchestershire sauce and carrots because of what I had on paw. Definitely a echo.
04/25/2007
Very tasty Nancy. I added greenish beans too as additional potatoes & carrots & flour. Next time I may add together a can of foam of mushromm soup. Mmmm proficient. Thanks!
07/02/2000
Swell with some peas thrown in too.
